SEPT 15:  BUILDING A WORDPRESS SITE FROM THE BOTTOM UP

Who wants to be in the midst of creative juices only to be halted by technical difficulties?! We will walk you through, one step at a time, holding your hand the whole way until you have a website. This is completely hands on so be prepared to actually do it.

You will need to have a few things prepared first, you’ll get full instructions once you register. We will provide detailed handouts to reference at home and to help you look cool when your buddy asks you to help with their site.

Should I take a minute to sell you on WordPress? Is that really necessary? You can do anything you want using WordPress.org. They also have an app that allows you to manage your site from your phone.  Developers love it too so future customization is easy. And there’s a huge community to support your developing ideas and questions.

What’s the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org? We found a similar chart at TentBlogger, which breaks it down nicely, but created our own little colorful version below.

Dominik Nekolny Wins 2012 Flatland Voodoo Jam in New Orleans

Blog No Comments

In addition to creating and designing for companies and organizations all over the country, I love taking part in a sport that I love very much.  BMX and biking is one of my first loves and this past weekend I was able to see my personal work pay off.  Neue Creative sponsored the Flatland Voodoo Jam in New Orleans by providing design, web, and social media creative.  We created the branding for this event for the past several years and gave the June 9th event a little refresh for 2012.

Below is the press official press-release with photos from the event.  You’ll see in one of the photos that our apparel brand FIKSD also received some coverage.  Props to Scott Obrien, Terry Adams, and all of their team for putting on a great event.

OFFICAL RELEASE:  Dominik Nekolny Wins 2012 Flatland Voodoo Jam in New Orleans

After a two-year hiatus the Flatland Voodoo Jam returned to Generations Hall in New Orleans, Louisiana. Just as expected, both the floor and balcony were filled to capacity and the energy was at an all-time high as more than 50 riders from eight different countries competed in the Veteran, Amateur, and Pro classes of what was no doubt the most anticipated flatland event on North American soil this year.

With event organizer and industry icon Scott O’Brien on the mic, and former BMX rider and local DJ MKULTRAsound on the turntables, the nightclub atmosphere came to life and gave both the riders and spectators a New Orleans experience they will never forget.

In the Amateur class, Canada’s Mark Kuhlman of Team Pralex fame took his first big win at an international event and earned him the chance to ride again in the pro class where he held his own, put together his best run of the night, and finished in a respectable 12th place.

The Pro class was stacked with talented riders, and with a one-run qualifying format, just making it into the ten-man finals was a feat in and of itself. Of the ten who moved on to the finals, the top five rode for a third time and went head-to-head in a battle-style super finals of sorts to fight for those coveted spots on the podium. When the dust settled, Dominik Nekolny out of the Czech Republic took the top spot with the U.S.’ Matt Wilhelm and event co-organizer and local hero Terry Adams rounding out the top three.

The 2012 Flatland Voodoo Jam is sponsored by: Red Bull, Dan’s Comp, Flatland Fuel, Freegun Underwear, Raising Cane’s, Deco, 430 Clothing, Diversion TV, Odyssey, Flatware, Fiksd Apparel, Neue Creative, and Purple Monkey.

3 Awesome Email Newsletter Tips

Blog No Comments

Neue receives email newsletters daily from a variety of different companies and organizations.  Some of them are nothing but content, others are a mixture of both with very poor design or appeal, while others are beautiful and well executed.  I always open and look through the beautiful ones by the way.

I wanted to share a few tips regarding email newsletters that I feel will greatly change the way you view your email campaigns and most definitely increase your response rate.  Follow these three FREE tips and your next email campaign should be a hit.

KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE

Your newsletter should be very short and sweet.  Many businesses make the mistake of trying to squeeze in everything they have to say in one newsletter.  When I receive newsletters that are heavy in content like that, I delete them immediately and won’t waste my time reading through it all.  You want to give your subscribers the option to read what they find interesting.  For example, if you’re a coffee shop and you’re hosting an event this weekend, your newsletter should not contain every little piece of information about that event.  You should provide a blurb and an image or graphic to go along with that 2 – 3 sentence blurb and then direct them to your website where they can get all of the details if they’d like.

THE GOAL IS TO DRIVE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE

The purpose of your newsletter should be to drive traffic to your site.  Email campaigns simply serve as anchors to your business and shouldn’t be used to tell stories or consume readers with as much information as possible.  You want to provide snapshots of what you’re doing or what you’d like subscribers to read.  You want the reader going to your site at their own will and if they make it that far, then that’s a good thing and you’re doing something right OR your information sounds interesting.  Now, be sure that if your goal is to drive traffic to your site, that your site is up to date and appealing.  The worst thing that you could do is have a good newsletter but a “crappy” website.  They may make it as far as your site but immediately leave once they see how bad it is.

DESIGN IS KEY

As I stated earlier, when i receive an email newsletter that is content overload, I delete it immediately.  I do the same if a newsletter is “ugly” and not well designed.  Of course I’m a designer and these things stand out to me, but I believe that most people feel the same way.  There are many newsletter services available and they all provide a library of templates to choose from.  Some of the templates are clean and work well, but overall even these templates can come out looking bad if there isn’t enough good design involved.

We offer a one time custom newsletter design service that includes either customizing an existing newsletter template or coding a custom template from scratch.  This one time investment can make a world of difference for your email campaigns.  You then have the power to reuse the theme as much as you want and your campaigns look awesome every time.  Contact us for more details on this service.

I hope this information was helpful and makes a difference in your next email campaign.  If you’d like us to look at your existing campaign and give you a free analysis and professional opinion, please send it to info@neuecreative.com.
